The 5th International Congress on University Teaching and Innovation, entitled 'Change in the University Teaching Culture',
will mainly cover the subjects listed below. The activities and presentations offered during the conference will be related to these subjects.
In each subject area, priority will be given to proposals on experiences in higher-education institutions and courses that have institutional
support and backing and have been validated as improvements or innovations in teaching practice.
Research work or studies related to the motto of this year's Congress may also be accepted if considered particularly relevant,
based on the criteria of the Scientific Committee.
1. Methodologies for change in university teaching
If we are to propose change in the university teaching culture and question traditional teaching methods, we must design,
implement and assess new proposals as part of new teaching and learning concepts and new trends in the various disciplines.
Presentations will be grouped into five sub-areas: Arts and Humanities, Sciences, Health Sciences, Social and Legal Sciences, and Engineering and Architecture.
2. Using advanced digital platforms and interactive material in
university teaching
The most recent advances in training and communication technologies are facilitating increased use of teaching methods that promote cooperative and interactive
learning and intensive participation in projects and problem solving.
3. Teamwork among university lecturers. Tutoring
University teaching is increasingly carried out by teams of lecturers. We must move away from the traditional situation
of isolated lecturers and towards new ways of organising university teaching. Creating groups of lecturers is necessary
for strategic planning and efficient coordination of new schools, degrees, courses and subjects. The university tutoring
will also be considered to be preferential in this area, since it needs a specific work of collaboration within the professorship
as well as a coordination of the educational teams.
4. Skills-based planning and assessment of teaching at universities.
Practicums in university degrees
The key to changing the teaching culture is to design, carry out and assess teaching and learning by skills.
This involves finding new working methods and team-based forms of planning and assessing academic activity,
as well as intensive horizontal and vertical coordination for all courses in all schools. A skills-based approach
requires a notable increase in interdisciplinarity. The practicum is directly related to this area because it is considered a
fundamental element in order to design and develop by competences the plans of study of the university degrees.
